How you can help

It’s often the simplest things that can make a big difference. Here are a few hints and tips on how to best manage your mortgage repayments.

  • If you’re having problems repaying your mortgage or think that you might experience problems, talk to us as soon as possible
  • Seek free advice to help you manage your finances
  • Make sure you keep any other people (such as those paying or guaranteeing the mortgage) up to date with what’s happening
  • If we’ve agreed a new payment plan with you, make sure you stick to it and tell us if your circumstances change. If you don’t make the agreed payments, we might have to go to court to get back any money you owe us, or repossess your property
  • Check whether you can get any state benefits or tax credits which could help to increase your income
  • If you’ve got an insurance policy, check whether it can help with your repayments
  • Make sure you tell us if you move to a new address

Before you change your mortgage arrangements, you may want to talk to a professional mortgage or financial adviser, debt counsellor or solicitor. We’d strongly recommend that you seek independent, free, debt advice.

Organisations that you can approach for help and advice include:

Most importantly, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. The sooner you seek assistance, the sooner you’ll be able to consider all options available to you.
